A Traveling Widower…Without Travel

Today should have been embarkation day in Patagonia, with all the passengers driven back from the resort in Rio Sereno to Puerto Natales, and settled into their cabins on the Lindblad Resolution. Sorry, I’m in the dumps about this, and keep thinking of what should have been.

So now I’m faced with a real conundrum – what do I do for a month+ to keep from going insane. Either the Colchicine, the Pericarditis, or both, have left me sluggish, running a slight fever at times. Working out at the gym is pretty much out of the question for a while. The same for long walks on the trails, not that I’m able to go very far right now. Hiking…nope. Lugging camera gear around. Double nope. The sluggishness and lack of energy are troublesome, but hopefully will disappear when I discontinue the drug at the end of November. Assuming I can do that. Something to hope for.

This pretty much leaves me with a lot of “old people” type of activities – sort of like living in an elder care facility. At least until I get my energy levels back up. Woo hoo…my eventual future is here! Maybe I’ll start watching Wheel of Fortune with the volume turned up high. Or find a local restaurant that offers early bird specials. Yum. I love eating dinner at 4:30PM

OK, it’s not that bad.

I actually have quite a few home, photography, blog and writing projects that I’ve been putting off for a rainy day, most of which require little if any physical activity with the exception of throwing things in the trash bins (garage cleanout). If I order a new photo printer, I’ll ask for help getting it up the stairs. Most everything else involves working on my iMac, or possibly taking a laptop somewhere else like the club or the library, for my writing related projects. A change of scenery helps writers block sometimes.

My next medical checkpoint is next Tuesday, an echocardiogram. I’m hoping the pericardial effusion (liquid in the heart lining) has decreased by then. And definitely not increased. Decreasing or disappearing would be a good sign that things are improving. I really need a break. And if this crummy condition  lasts too long, I’ll have to keep more bananas around the house – gorillas eat a lot.

Peace
